About Us

What the society is all about, and how we see ourselves...

The Committee

The society is run by its members through the committee. Here's a description of all the roles on the committee...

Our Constitution

Every society at UCL Union has its own constitution defining its existence and its day-to-day running, and the LGBT is no exception.

The UCL Union LGBT Society provides a number of services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students at the university. This is a formal description of the activities and aims of the society. For a more relaxed and detailed portrayal of what we get up to , see Gay Life at UCL.

The LGB society organises events of various types that let members make new gay friends, and enjoy socialising in a majority gay group. We hold easyGays, an evening at EasyJ's 2nd floor bar several times a term, which is attended by students form all across London. Almost every week in term time, we organise at least one event, (frequently more) of some kind. These may be a structured evening such as the "Icebreakers" parties, but are often external events such as bar crawls, or get-togethers in the Union before going out clubbing. Email updates, posters and this website keep members informed about upcoming events and outings.

The society has an important role to play in offering support over gay issues to its members. We also hold occasional workshops covering issues such as coming out and discrimination, and we can always offer personal support to members over gay-related issues. We will soon offer support resources on this website for members.

Some LGB Society members take an active role in campaiging for gay issues. As a body, we also support the NUS LGB priority campaings. In the past year, members have been actively involved in demonstrating over the abolition of Section 28. During LGB Awareness Week at the university, we hold a high-profile campaign to raise awareness of gay issues which this year included a prominent presence in the issue of Pi Magazine which was published at that time.

The LGB is an open and friendly society. We take a relaxed approach, and welcome new members at any time of the year, and as there is no formal membership, all you need to do is sign up to our mailing list. Primarily, the LGB exists as an informal group of like-minded people, and as such, members pick and choose which events and activities they want to get involved in.
